Classroom Progress

~ At the beginning of the school year, Tucker C. and I were assigned to study and research the computer power supply. We learned that this is what gives the computer the power to make it work. Once we finished studying our topic, we began to look at the computer power supply itself. We learned that it converts household electricity into electricity that the computer can run on. Once we finished looking at it, we put it and information about it on an eisel/poster to be displayed.

~ After we finished our computer power supply project, we were given a Pentium III computer that we installed an operating system on. The operating system works as a second "brain" of the computer and lets it use common things on a computer, like a web browser. This unfamiliar operating system is called "Ubuntu." Once it was installed, we took a look at what Ubuntu had to offer. Once we had a few days of looking and using the new system, we began to update the computer to its fullest so that Tucker C. could bring it home.

~ During this Pentium III project, I took time aside to learn how to construct a Networking Cable (Ethernet Cable.) With this cable, we could access the internet through our Pentium III.

~ After we finished updating our Pentium III computer, Tucker C. was allowed to take it home. Once it was out of the way, we began picking at a new machine. Through a few days of work and frustration, however, we learned that it wasn't going to work. We took it apart and kept all the good items in it. After this, we tried again with a different machine. We ended up with the same result, taking it apart and keeping the parts of desire.

~ After attempt #2, we decided to go for a 3rd, which we are currently working on. We discovered that we had to change many of the parts to this computer, as it had more "life" to it than our past attempts. Once we replaced the important parts of the computer at least once, we tried it. It ran unbuntu... To some extent... However, it refused to read the disc to finish the process. We tried running a slightly older version of Ubuntu and we discovered that we had to switch our 64 bit microprocessor to a 32 bit processor, which is where we are currently at.
